The Boundless Connections Technology Center recently hosted a technology career day for seventh grade students from Young Women’s College Prep (YWCP) charter school.
Students toured the tech center in Sibley Square and learned about different kinds of technology used across multiple career fields and the opportunities they can begin exploring now.
“It was a truly exciting day,” Tchianna McPeak, Director of Operations – Programs, said. “We wanted each student to not only see all the opportunities in the tech field but also recognize how tech can work in the career/gigs that interest them.”
“There is a lot of young talent in the Rochester area and the students of YWCP are no exception. It was inspiring to hear some of the conversations the students were able to have about their plans for their future careers.”
The field trip was part of YWCP’s annual “Cool Women/Hot Jobs” career exploration program in which students from every grade level explore future career opportunities.
“Learning about different technologies and how they are used in a variety of careers is essential for today’s students,” said Lauri Bonnell, director of development for the YWCP Foundation. “Whether you work in health care, education, sports, business, or any other industry, technology is transforming what workplaces look like and how jobs are done, so embracing technology is the key to finding career success.”
Several tech-involved presenters hosted 15-minute sessions through which groups of students rotated, learning about tech careers, tech in the arts, tech in entrepreneurship and how technology is used in virtually every career.
Presenters included: Christina Lopez, Boundless Connections CEO; Michael Marvin, Strength Solutions executive director; Ms. McPeak; Hans Rasschaert, The Raspie Network founder; Steve Capitani, musician; and Brenton Cousins, intellADAPT software engineer.
Boundless Connections’ goal is to help community members keep up with the rapid pace of change in technology, meeting the demands of a dynamic and evolving workforce while helping members develop essential skills.
